Join us at the Lee Mansion in welcoming Food Historian Joyce White for an informal talk on her new book “Cooking Maryland's Way: Voices of a Diverse Cuisine.” This book is a companion book to “Maryland’s Way, The Hammond-Harwood House Cook Book,” published in 1963 that included over 700 recipes sourced from centuries-old manuscript recipe books and contributions from Marylanders from across the state.
In her new book the author, supported by several contributing authors, reflects on the chief cultural influences of Maryland's early foundational cuisine: Native American, African American, German, and British. Extensive research on both the foods and their method of preparation brings the history of Maryland’s diverse cuisine into sharp focus. Voices of key individuals who shaped Maryland's early culinary history are also resurrected.
Enjoy a talk about the historical context of the recipes, a book signing and seasonal menu tasting prepared by Jerusalem Mill Hearth Cooking Reenactors. Proceeds benefit Jerusalem Mill Village critical preservation projects. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit Eventbrite here.
