We Love Our Volunteers!

We have volunteer opportunities of all varieties! Drop by to help for a day or two,
or look into one of the volunteer positions listed below.
We look forward to working with you!

There’s a lot of rewarding work to be done at Jerusalem Mill Village!

From building maintenance and restoration to event management and living history, and everything in between, plenty of opportunities await volunteers who sincerely wish to help build, preserve, or interpret our historic Village.

We have a Volunteer Work Day scheduled the Second Saturday of each month 9:00 am-Noon. No need to sign up in advance, just come to the front of the Mill on the second Saturday of any month at 9:00 am. Wear clothes to work outside and bring work gloves. (In the event of inclement weather, the Volunteer Work Day will be cancelled.) We will provide drinks, snacks and instructions on a 2-3 hour task. The entire family is welcome!

If you’re good with paintbrushes and carpenters’ tools, we could use your help with restoring and maintaining nearly every building in the village. If you like to plan events, or if you know how to get the word out about fun happenings, we need your help with our concert series and other events. We also need people who like to lead tours, teach children, tend gardens, or think up great fundraising ideas.

If you are an experienced reenactor of the 18th, 19th, or early 20th centuries, you can help us make our history come alive. We’d love to add basket weaving, textile arts, tinsmithing, and coopering to our weekend living history program, and we’d also like to expand our woodworking activities.

Or perhaps you’re more interested in reading, writing, sorting and organizing. We have a long list of topics for amateur researchers and a lot of artifacts that need to be sorted and organized. Much of the work can be done from the comfort of your home and perhaps an occasional visit to the library, historical society or archives.

Anyone interested in volunteering can contact us at historicjerusalemmill@gmail.com , or give us a call 410-877-3560.

We look forward to working with you!

Help Wanted! Please See Specific
Volunteer Positions Available Below:

Docent/History Interpreter in our Visitor Center – Museum, General Store, or Mansion
Greet visitors and provide information about the history and life in the village, and of the people who lived and worked there.
No prior knowledge of the village history is required. Our Volunteer Handbook and experienced interpreters
will give you all of the information you’ll need!

Trades, Crafts and Cultural Interpreters
Wear period attire and demonstrate authentic tools and techniques in our blacksmith shop, joinery (woodworking) and Miller’s House.
Or, help us create new presentations, like vintage toy demonstrations, a printing press, post office, tin smithing, and more.

Grant Managers
Research and identify grant opportunities, prepare grant applications, ensure that the organization satisfies all of the requirements
of the grant, and writes interim and final reports. Research and curatorial assistants can often work at home
or at local and state historical societies, libraries or archives to discover as much as they can on a wide variety of topics.
Focus areas include genealogy, architecture, archeology, history and sociology.

Volunteer Coordinator
Explain to potential volunteers the wide variety of opportunities and the benefits that come with volunteering
at the Jerusalem Mill Village, and help with the registration process. Coordinators also arrange for a brief orientation
of the village, provide a copy of the Volunteer Handbook, and coordinate with the specialists in a given focus area
to provide on-the-job training if needed.

Sponsorship Coordinator
Help to identify and recruit sponsors who want to support our preservation efforts while advertising their services
in our newsletter and/or at our outdoor concerts. You will also explain the possible tax benefits of sponsorship.

Private Event Coordinator
Assist visitors in choosing a location, date and time for their private event on the grounds of the village. You will discuss the donation associated with their event, advise them on available amenities and restrictions, and ensure the event organizer understands their responsibilities for set-up and cleanup. The coordinator also ensures the event is placed on the corporate calendar
and that “reserved” signs are placed at the location on the day of the event.

If you’re interested in any of these opportunities, just send us an email at historicjerusalemmill@gmail.com,
or call us at 410-877-3560 and leave a message. We’ll be sure to get back to you!
