The Lee Mansion at Jerusalem Mill Village!

Please click the "Read More" links on the right to learn more about Jerusalem Mill Village.

This building is not open to the public.

The Lee Mansion, the largest residence in the Village, stands near the Mill. It is presently the residence and offices of a general medical practitioner, who practices from her home, continuing the tradition of the self-sufficient village. The Maryland State Gazette and business directories list a physician, Dr. Robert Bouldin, in Jerusalem Mill from 1871-1902, although he wasn't in this building. Research continues in an attempt to place a date on this building. According to some accounts, it was begun in 1790 by the original miller and then expanded by later generations of Lees. According to others, it was built shortly before or after the Civil War from profits from that period. It shows on the 1860 plat, but is not labeled, leading to confusing about its status at the time. The 1860 plat shows a much smaller structure near the present mansion which appears to be labeled the "Lee House". Since the Lee family is recorded in the 1870 census as living up the road towards Bel Air, it is likely that this mansion was under construction (or being repaired after a fire) at that time.

Behind the mansion is a 2-story, stone building, which served as a spring house on the bottom floor, and a smoke house on the second floor. A date-stone identifies that this building was built in 1840.
